Dental surgeons diagnose, treat, prevent, and control diseases of the teeth and mouth. Using diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, the dental specialist identifies and treats diseases, injuries and malformations of the teeth, gums, mouth, and jaws. He prescribes and administers preventive care. They may be called upon to perform certain surgical procedures such as extracting teeth. They work in private practice, hospitals, clinics, public health centres or universities. They must be licensed by the Ordre des dentistes du Québec (ODQ) and be listed on the College’s register to practise in the province.
